Five Ways to Save Money on Your Wedding (That worked for us!)

Since we had a tight wedding budget, we hosted a rustic, nontraditional celebration. From our experience, guests can have just as much fun feasting on pizza and riding in a school bus as they could eating filet mignon and cruising in a limousine. Here are some of the budget-friendly ideas that helped make our wedding even more special and truly one of the best days of our lives.

1) Pick your own flowers
Selecting beautiful blossoms with my bridesmaids, flower girl, aunt, and mother was a meditative, ice-breaking activity the day before our wedding. If you prefer, you can pick flowers for the centerpieces and still buy the bouquets and boutonnieres from a florist.

2) Hire a Big, Yellow School Bus for Guest Transportation
What holds more guests or is more nostalgic than a school bus? Plus, buses are great for pictures. If your wedding is like ours—everyone will be singing together on the way home.

3) Serve brick oven pizza
We had four kinds of brick oven pizza, salad, and Italian appetizers (goat cheese crostini, caprese kabobs, stuffed dates, and stuffed mushrooms). There were no complaints or long lines—in fact, one man was so impressed with the food that he almost kissed my dad.

4) Use eco-friendly plates and tableware
You can personalize the webstaurant store's eco-gecko disposable wooden tableware
($5.49/100) with cute stamps or wasabi tape and Susty Party's plates ($68/96) are sturdy and come in a variety of pretty colors.

 5) Borrow jewelry
Borrow your bridal jewelry from your mother, mother-in-law, grandmother or sister. I wore the necklace that my grandfather (who passed away when I was a baby) had given my grandmother for their wedding day.
