Stovetop Potpourri + Thanksgiving Decor Inspiration

Happy Sunday!

We are slowly recovering from the whirlwind of getting married and traveling.  (Our wedding was one of the happiest days of my life, but it was an exhausting amount of work!) Since shoes, cable advertisements, catalogs, socks, and beauty products were seeping from under our bed, blanketing the windowsills, and covering our closet floor, we dedicated yesterday to cleaning and organizing. (Living in a 525 square foot apartment means “spring cleaning” every couple of months.)

Then I simmered orange peels, cinnamon sticks, and allspice, filling the apartment with their fresh, spicy scent, put on The Holiday, opened an ice-cold Stella Artois, and flipped through magazines. I feel calmer and more relaxed already.

Today, I need to make a Thanksgiving plan. I love these decorating ideas:
Mason Jars with Floating Candles (BHG)
Apple Candle Holders (Thrifty Decor Chick)
Stovetop Potpourri

-1 Orange (quartered and peeled)
-2 Cinnamon sticks
-1 tablespoon of whole allspice or cloves
-2 cups of water

(You could also use—lemon peel, vanilla beans/extract, cranberries, nutmeg, bay leaves, etc.)

To Make
1) Put orange peels, cinnamon sticks, allspice/cloves, and water in a saucepan.
2) Bring contents to boil; reduce heat and simmer.
3) Monitor and add water as necessary. Remember to turn off the heat if you’re leaving home!
